Hal is an interdisciplinary artist mostly working in ceramics and painting onto board, upcycled furniture and textiles. He lived in Scotland for three years to pursue a BA in Communication Design at the Glasgow School of Art, where he graduated in 2019. He now lives in St Leonards-On-Sea and works nearby at his self-built studio.
Hal worked as a photographer for 8 years before he developed his current multidisciplinary process. His photography practice took him around the world capturing people and places, with a keen interest in visual storytelling. This has influenced his illustrative approach to surface decoration.
Hal's own interior design taste is broad and eclectic. In his pieces he likes to compliment the colourful and expressive paintings with clean lines and contemporary materials in order to befit many different environments: from rustic country interiors to mid century design or 90s modernity. The visual motifs in his work often reference the natural environment, life at home and his experience growing up as a queer person in the English countryside.
Hal's work has been featured in Vogue, Living Etc, Elle Decoration, itsnicethat, House and Garden, Homes and Gardens, Creative Review, Table Magazine and ES Magazine.
His clients and collaborators include Paul Smith, Burberry, Apple, Soho House, Uniqlo, The Hoxton, &Klevering, Adobe, Barbour and Birrificio Angelo Poretti.
